Format
- Those using the Nursery should proceed directly to the Nursery room on arrival. Children, preschool to grade 8, gather in the Chapel upon arrival and share a youth meditation led by pastoral assistant, Dr. Judy Haley. After the morning conversation preschool – 5th grade students are escorted to their classrooms and the middle school students gather in their own recently designed youth room.
- At 11 a.m. all students are escorted to the Sanctuary where they end the worship service with their family and enjoy hospitality time and conversation after the service.
Curriculum
- Nursery – Our warm and caring Nursery is staffed by volunteer caregivers who are assisted by the energy of First Parish High School youth. New faces (ages 0-4 years) are always welcome!
- Preschool – Grade 5 use Godly Play which is a discovery method of learning using storytelling and props that enables young children to encounter God. Each classroom has a volunteer staff of Godly Play trained storytellers and parent/grandparent helpers.
- Middle School Youth Group – Led by youth director, Jared Hamilton the goal is to have our young people focus on service projects that provide concrete benefit to those in need. These projects create a character of service that will become a common trait in the youth at our church.
Special Activities & Projects
- Jazz Worship Service followed by a fried chicken family picnic in September, face painting and a bounce house entertain the youngsters
- Ingathering; in October which involves collecting food for the Cape Ann Food Pantry
- Decorating and filling Thanksgiving baskets for the Manchester COA in November
- Christmas Pageant performance during worship in December
- Christmas Eve 5pm Family Worship Service when children participate in a festive Christmas Service
- A Church wide Birthday Bash hosted by the CE committee, which celebrates everyone’s birthday with fabulous cakes and decorations
- A fundraising Talent Show and luncheon for the Heifer Project
- Children’s Sunday where children share with the church community what they have learned through out the year
- All Church picnic held after the Worship service in June at Tuck’s Point, old fashion family games are enjoyed such as watermelon eating
Choirs
- The Sunday School Choir, is led by Ann Greenleaf, a retired nursery school/music teacher and assisted by Chip Price with his guitar, both are longtime members of First Parish.
- The SS choir includes all students attending Sunday school and students perform during several services including Jazz Sunday, the Christmas pageant, and Palm Sunday.
- The Junior Choir includes students Grade 2 and up, and is overseen by the Choir Director, Don Dunn, a retired elementary school music teacher and the Music Committee.
