Music at First Parish Church

Music is regarded as an essential and significant part of the worship experience at First Parish Church. The Music Committee provides overall direction to the program through the Organist-Choir Director, Donald Dunn.

The Senior Choir has in excess of 20 members, who share a common bond - they love to sing, and they have fun together singing In addition, choir members indicate that their personal worship experience is enhanced by the music and the messages that it conveys. The choir includes soprano and baritone section leaders, who perform solo parts as required by the music. Typically, the Choir sings two anthems correlated to the lessons of the day, as well as responses after the Morning Prayer and the benediction. Mr. Dunn selects quality music, composed by the “masters”, as well as leading contemporary composers. The Senior Choir rehearses Wednesday evening from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel. New voices are always welcome! Come join the fun!!

The Junior Choir is made up of children in the 2’’ through 6th grades, and is also directed by Mr. Dunn, a retired elementary school music teacher. The Choir is organized into two 6 to 7 week semesters - Advent and Lent. Rehearsals are Wednesday from 6:00 to 6:45 p.m. The Junior Choir normally sings at two Sunday morning services during each semester; for example, Thanksgiving Sunday and Sunday School Pageant Sunday.

In addition, there is a “Cherub Choir” within the Sunday School Program.
