Dear First Parish Church,
As we step into October, I am reminded of the beauty and richness of this season. The changing leaves and crisp air invite us to pause and reflect on the blessings in our lives and the abundance of God’s grace surrounding us.
October will be a busy month for our church and throughout town. I am excited for the many opportunities we will have to shine God’s light and love out into the community.
Upcoming Events
• World Communion Sunday, 10/6 This special service reminds us of our connection to followers of Christ all over the globe. We will hear of Jesus feeding the multitudes and celebrate the ways our Neighbors in Need contributions are helping to address global hunger.
• Soup and Conversation: Faith Formation, 10/6 after Worship in Chapel Hall Faith is not just a handful of lessons or statements that we pass on to our children. We are each called to be active participants in the formation of our faith. Come learn more about the work of the newly formed Faith Formation Committee, share your ideas for programming and initiatives, and enjoy some delicious lunch and scrumptious conversation.
• Cape Ann Plein Air Quick Draw, Saturday, 10/12, 10a-2p in Chapel Hall. We’re thrilled to host this exciting event and show these amazing artists the hospitality FPC is known for. Volunteers needed to provide baked goods and staff the refreshments table.
• Harvestfest Carnival at Masconomo Park, Friday, 10/18, 4-7p. FPC is one of the community sponsors for this fun family event and we’ll also be giving out popcorn on Opening Night. Greeters and popcorn distributors needed.
• Blessing of the Animals, Sunday afternoon 10/20, on Singing Beach. Our pets bless our lives with love and are a constant reminder that God watches over all creatures great and small. Join us on the beach as we give thanks for these loveable companions and offer them each a special blessing.
• Wobblin Goblin Parade, Saturday, 10/26, 9:30–10:30a on the Town Green Get in the spirit and join the Vitality Committee as we pass out candy to the littlest goblins in town. Come in costume, decorate your trunk, or just enjoy the holy sugar-fueled chaos. Volunteers welcome.
In Worship
We will continue our journey with Abraham through the end of October. In the second half of our series the focus will be on the women in the story, the children of Abraham, and the testing of Abraham. As we round the corner towards November we’ll prepare for All Saints Day, stewardship season and a new sermon series on Jacob.
It’s thrilling to feel the energy buzzing in the air this fall. Thank you all for stepping up in ways big and small. What a beautiful thing we are building, together with God!
Blessings, Rev. Katherine
